If you or your loved one needs to travel long distance with a medical condition – whether it is Alzheimer’s or other type of dementia, stroke, heart failure, a head injury, or something else – using a medical transportation company is easier and safer than arranging the transport on your own. All medical coaches are constructed to be safe and comfortable with ample medical equipment and a personal nurse, and we do everything possible to accommodate our guest’s needs.
In order to best serve our clients, we ask a number of questions when you call in. This is to determine special needs and help us offer the best options for the situation. In some cases a person might be want to travel by regular train, bus, or plane, but requires a nurse escort.
Transportation Solutions Based on Medical Needs and Conditions
Other travelers do best in a medically equipped coach where they can rest on a hospital bed and have oxygen, bathroom, and kitchen nearby. Some travelers require an air ambulance and in-flight physician. The more we know about our guests and their condition, the better we can tailor a solution.
Questions you might encounter include diagnosis, if oxygen is needed, if the person needs suctioning, nebulizer treatments, cardiac monitoring, or special diet. We will also ask if the person is currently in ICU, nursing home, or traveling from home. All these questions help us get insight in the person’s overall condition.
Differences Between Medical Transportation Companies
There are some major differences between MED Coach and other medical transportation companies. Many transport on a stretcher in the back of a van, and this is fine for shorter distances, but not a comfortable way to travel state to state or across the country. Our coaches are large and heavy, which ensures a smoother ride than in a van. The coaches have a long wheelbase to even out any bumps on the road, and special suspension to further ensure passengers’ comfort. Each coach also has a hospital bed, sofa, kitchen, onboard bathroom, and amenities for entertainment.
